The Faces of Fortune Book Launch

Written by Lin Dee

Tee Lin Say, the author, with the Faces of Fortune books in MPH

In August, my twin sister Lin Say had her 'Faces of Fortune' book launch. Done in collaboration with Joey Yap's Mastery Academy, the book detailed 20 tycoons in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India and China and demonstrated mian xiang-wise why you could bet on their companies. My twin was the author of the book. She interviewed several tycoons, did the mian xiang analysis and research and wrote the entire book.

The launch was a big event held in MPH, Mid Valley City. The date had been specifically chosen by the Mastery Academy and on that day, it was an unusually jammed day. The jam affected Bangsar, the Federal Highway and KL to a point of perplexing phenomena.  It was madness truly.

But of course, the stars aligned as Chinese Metaphysics has so aptly shown over the years and the turnout was great. 2 tycoons - Top Glove's Tan Sri Lim Wee-Chai and SP Setia's Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin were present, along with the outstanding Joey Yap and Wong Chun Wai, Star Publication's Group Managing Editor.

Oooh! Ain't this the stuff dreams are made of?

Joshua, a rising star in Star Publications was the unprepared emcee on that auspicious day.

Everyone loves to hear what Chun Wai has to say.

Joey Yap the stellar speaker needs no introduction.
The Hoyeh boss in all his glory sitting unassuming.

A roomful of good qi. There are millionaires within.

Beng Leong, the Guru and his entourage. Hwa Seng (far right) is a disciple.

The author starts speaking.

The author cannot stop speaking.

Papparazi time. Certainly this is living the dream. Cameras clicked furiously.

Tan Sri Lim Wee-Chai is an exemplary human being. He came all the way just to support the author. He talked a lot about adding value.
Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin joked that he was the "poorest" of the 20 tycoons.

Little Song very bravely and graciously sings "You Raise Me Up."
Ah, it was oh-so-beautiful.

Aren't we all just enraptured by the sweet singing of Little Song...
Mama in the centre.
Book signing time. Ain't this the life?

We had a lot of friends and clients who turned up for the event. They came all the way, braving the bad jam. In particular, my Hip Hop Girls ( Trala, Jas & Bella), Mike & Patrick of One Community, Vincent & his beguiling wife from Getha and Reiko Soo of VL Skincare. They are my friends but came nevertheless. It was  the Universe's way of showing me how much Im loved :)

Dolled up Reiko Soo, Hong Yee and Mengs.
The cool duo - V & J
My Hip Hop Girls: Bella, Trala, lovely me and Jas.

Father and son team: Mike and Patrick are very high net worth individuals.

Love emanates on both sides :P LBJ, Jin, me, Mengs and Igor

Lin Say & the self-absorbed Little Song. They are best friends.
Now, prior to this boos launch, lots of publicity was carried out in The Star paper itself. Articles on some of the tycoons were written by Lin Say and this all geared up to the launching of the book. Here are some of the publicity shots.

Tycoon 6: Tan Sri Lim Wee-Chai

Tycoon 7: Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir

Tycoon 3: Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin

Tycoon 9: Tan Sri Tony Fernandes

In the first 2 weeks of the book launch, Faces of Fortune was 2nd on the MPH Bestselling list. Right now, it is at the 6th spot. The coverage on the book launch came out in several newspapers. There was also a radio publicity show on BFM and book publicity events in other states. This really is the best time to call up your enemies and go "Hahahahahaha."

Prominently placed in xxxx

Centrespread coverage. That's huge, editorial-wise.

Well certainly, this is huge within the Entourage. Till then, go get the book now. It's in all MPH stores :)

My Exclusive Interview With Yung Joey

Written by Lin Dee

In late May, I was esctatic when Dennis, my client told me my request for an exclusive interview with Hong Kong superstar Joey Yung, his ambassador had been granted. I am a writer and my job specifically is to help my clients grow their businesses, brand and persuade sales. It's something I love to do and clients seem to love me back.

Dennis is a dynamic businessman and the owner of Herbalceutical Sdn Bhd. He has a line of pharmaceutical products in pharmacies throughout Malaysia and we have a great love of talking on how to make more money. When he told me Joey Yung would be coming for the launch of his star product NH Colla Plus, instantly, I knew what I had to do. I spoke to my Entertainment Editor (Star Publications) and she was fine with what I wanted to do so hooray!

So on that day, armed with my list of questions and my knee high boots, I set off to Prince Hotel with my little brother July where a huge press conference in Joey Yung and NH Colla Plus' honour was held.

Here comes the stunning Joey Yung to the mad click of cameras.

A close up of the HK Superstar. Cool getup, I gotta say.

Malaysia's Health Minister, Dato Leow Tiong Lai, Yung Joey and Herbalceutical CEO Dennis.

Herbalceutical's products are well recognized in the market and the fact that the Health Minister was there said plenty about the conpany's credibility. Well, speeches were made by the minister, CEO and of course Joey had her Q&A session with the reporters.

After all that, I was told by her handlers that my interview was up. We were led to a private room with plenty of handlers. I snuck in July who sat quietly and no one seemed to notice. So the little boy was present throughout the interview.

Well I gotta say, Joey Yung has unbelievably flawless skin. It's so poreless it's flawless. Everyone commented how beautiful her skin was. She seriously makes a good skin ambassador because her skin is so aspirational. She has good genes which she attributed to her mum. I couldnt help feeling so un-flawless with my dehydrated skin next to her. However, she's a really nice person. No airs and extremely friendly. Very unusual for a celebrity of her stature.  And she has beautiful Bambi eyes that make her look  doe-eyed.

Unfortunately I speak very little Cantonese and Joey Yung speaks even less English. I was given a translator and in the 20 minutes I was given, I did my best to fit in as many questions as possible. The annoying handler reminded me that my time was coming to a close, and I suddenly knew how an inquisitive journalist felt because I found myself ignoring her and pressing for an extra question. Joey obliged ever so nicely :)

Lovely Joey takes my questions through a translator.

There I am writing down my answers and doing what I do best :)
Well after all that fanfare, me and July along with the other members of the media headed to the coffeehouse where we had a wonderful buffet meal. Did some hobnobbing with Dennis and his family then.

Me and Dennis. We are business partners. I love it!

Me and my beloved Little Boy Jun. I love him!

Me and Jane, Herbalceutical's nutritionist and marketing exec. Super efficient girl!

It was a very successful event and Herbalceutical enjoyed a lot of publicity from magazines and newspapers after that. The Joey Yung campaign took on an aggressive approach in the next few months. Bilboards and advertisements are everywhere.

Me and Dennis came up with the tagline together. So proud when I first saw it in One Utama.

Ahhhh what pride. Here's to NH Colla Plus becoming the No 1 collagen drink in Malaysia. It already is.

In June, NH Colla Plus entered Singapore pharmacies. Right now, we're in talks with Jakarta and it's an exciting time.  Life is good as a writer. That's me and I love it.
